A pierced pediment, and everything changed.
A serliana oculus above the entrance had never been done on a country villa before. Palladio took a motif from the Roman baths and brought it here, in the middle of the Vicenza countryside, for a rather modest client.
A move so bold that I Quattro Libri would document it as a model — twenty years later.
The result is a building that speaks two languages at once: the geometric severity of Vitruvian tradition, and the joyful invention of someone who knows the rules can be bent.
